HELLO EVERYONE
Welcome to our new site, we are just a community of like-minded caring people and we are very passionate and dedicated to making sandwiches for the Soup Kitchens in Tameside and Manchester.
Join us on our journey as we will be introducing you to them and some of our brave members, as many are actually very shy. But all our ladies and gentlemen have wonderful senses of humour and together we have not just made a big difference to the homeless. But we as a team have made good friends from all this.
Join us in our journey as we will share with you our volunteer work and the visitors who pop in to meet us and what a lovely treat it was when The Mayor of Tameside Cllr Joyce Bowman and her consort Mr Frederick Bowman gave us a surprise visit. We were all delighted and Madame Mayor exclaimed she had never seen so many sandwiches in her entire life.
Shortly we had a call from the Manchester Evening Newspaper and a call from the BBC TV News North West who visited us and you can see in this film link what a jolly bunch of people we are.
HOW CAN YOU HELP
Simply its bread we need fresh bread. Currently, we receive from Tesco Hattersley every Tuesday Foodshare Bread unsold, which is marvellous and we are very grateful for this helps us on Wednesdays. But come Thursdays we are short of bread the rest of the 6 days. Currently we are greatly struggling and the Morrisons Vouchers the public donate to us has actually been saving us. Because we get fresh bread from this method. Ideally, we would love if a bakery reading this could please help to even spare a few loaves.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT MONEY, ONLY FOOD DONATIONS AND SUPERMARKET VOUCHERS
As we prefer to keep it simple and transparent and all food that comes in immediately goes out. The soup kitchens collect their boxes of sandwiches from us and the other goodies and essentials.

Helping The Homeless & The Hungry
Sandwich Angels was formed by Christina V Howard, who refused to sit idly by whilst others lived homeless and hungry on our streets.
Christina’s vision was to create something that would have an immediate impact, require no fund-raising or monetary donations. This is still true today.
By taking something as simple as the humble sandwich to the homeless and hungry of Greater Manchester and Tameside, Christina has been joined by an ever-growing number of volunteers who make only sandwiches, which are then distributed directly to those who need them.

WHAT SANDWICH ANGELS DO
Being a Sandwich Angel could not be easier, nor could it have a more positive effect. They make sandwiches and ensure every round is delivered directly to those who are homeless and hungry.
Being fed is a basic human need and with so many falling well short of that, being able to help so much, in such a simple way is the continuing ethos of Christina and Sandwich Angels.
Christina often comments on the generosity of her local shops, especially Morrisons and Tesco Express in Hyde, for providing many of the staple ingredients, such as bread and butter.
Sandwich Angels now cover 18 soup kitchens, including hostels, in Greater Manchester and Tameside. Food goes out at different times of the day and during some weeks, they can produce and deliver over 3,250 sandwiches.

BECOME A SANDWICH ANGEL
If you can make simple sandwiches then you can be a Sandwich Angel. All we ask for is as many sandwiches as you can make, and then deliver them to us; we will take care of the distribution.
The types of sandwiches we need are simply cheese, corned beef, ham and tuna; served on buttered bread.
If you don’t have the time to make a sandwich then donations of bread, butter, cheese, ham, corned beef and tuna would be brilliant.
Many of our Sandwich Angels help even further by buying their own ingredients, which can be done so cheaply. No one is asking for anything above basic ingredients and a basic sandwich. Just being able to give that basic foodstuff can make a massive difference to someone’s day and indeed life.
We never have a rota, as our Sandwich Angels volunteers turn up as and when they are available. There is no pressure and even if you make sandwiches only once, it would be such a help to us and those less fortunate than ourselves.
If you would like to become a Sandwich Angel or would just like some more information, you can contact Christina on 0771 397 3640 or click here to send an email.
